Reliability

The best mining operations are uncompromising when it comes to the quality and reliability of their vehicles. At Pronoia, we believe the same should be true when it comes to protecting those investments from debilitating fires and loss of production.

Amerex fire suppression systems protect mining vehicles, buses and military vehicles, with excellent results. More than fifty vehicles of Hellas Gold have been equipped with the Amerex system. The system can be automatically and manually actuated, thereby increasing response time and user choice. During actuation, a time delay can be programmed into the control panel, thus giving the passengers a few seconds to safely exit the vehicle. For sizeable investments where downtime is not an option, protection with Amerex systems is the only solution.

  • Warranty 3 years.
  • UL Listed.
  • FM Approved

Fire detection

Multiple types of detectors can be used on the same vehicle to provide faster response in high risk areas. Fire detection can be done in the following ways, either exclusively, or in combination:
  • Spot Heat Detectors. Tough, vibration-resistant, available in three different preset temperature settings for flexibility, they provide rapid heat detection and system activation. Spot Heat Detectors have factory installed connectors for reliability and ease of installation and service.
  • Linear Heat Detection cables have long been the industry standard and provide a continuous heat detection cable run inside the hazard area. Amerex has amped up the traditional cable with a more robust abrasion resistant outer jacket and factory installed connectors for reliability and ease of service. The cable is also available with a stainless steel coil protective covering for extreme environments.
  • Infrared Detectors. The Amerex IR3 infrared detector is the fastest responding detector in the industry, responding to fire within seconds. Faster response means less damage and less downtime. IR3 detectors “see” the fire by recognizing the light wavelength patterns thrown off by the hydrocarbon fire.
  • Gas Detectors. An increasing number of vehicles use natural gas nowadays. The problem with this type of fuel is that it often does not burn, instead it explodes upon combustion. Amerex gas detectors immediately alert the driver to exit the leaking vehicle safely.

Fire suppression

The Amerex system protects the engine, battery, fuel tank and hydraulic parts of the vehicle. The extinguishing agent is sprayed by nozzles with robust caps that prevent moisture and dust from entering the discharge network. During system actuation, the nozzle caps are automatically opened by the discharge agent pressure.

The agent cylinders are pressurized, preventing moisture from entering the cylinders and contamination of the fire suppression agent. No need for delays while the cylinder is being pressurized from an outside source. Stored pressure cylinders have a pressure gauge which allows maintenance personnel to verify readiness. They can also be fitted with a pressure switch which detects a low-pressure condition and notifies the operator via the control panel. The extinguishing agent can be one of the following options:

  • Dry chemical is the most commonly used extinguishing agent in vehicle fire suppression systems and is very effective due to the powder’s ability to reach three-dimensional areas.
  • ICE system uses firefighting foam and works by blanketing liquid fuel surfaces, preventing oxygen from combining with ignition sources.
  • Dry-ICE system provides the best possible fire protection option by combining the rapid knockdown power of dry agent with the cooling effect of ICE liquid agent.

Testing & monitoring

Our team will guide you on the best solution for your requirements. Pronoia’s highly skilled personnel is responsible for installation, maintenance and testing under the strict guidelines set by Amerex.

  • Maintenance: Amerex agent cylinders go far above industry standards, engineered and manufactured with a quality-assured process that eliminates leaks and ensures life-long reliability. Extensive maintenance and refilling are required as far apart as every 6 years. During this time, if the pressure gauge is showing the correct reading, you know that your cylinder is good to go.
  • Testing: After installation, as well as during maintenance, extensive testing is performed to fully test the system’s readiness. In addition, the control panel continuously performs individual tests, making sure that the system’s key parts are in good working order.
  • Monitoring: The control panel records all events, which can then be downloaded to a computer. Each system has a spare battery, ensuring reliability 365 days a year. The control panel can adapt to any future changes or additions, offering unparalleled flexibility to the user and installer.
